Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct nasal deformities. Basically, it consists of altering the bone and cartilage structures of the nose to achieve a new shape that improves facial harmony.
Rhinoplasty ensures that the patient’s facial harmony is improved and the nose does not look like it has been operated on. The shape of the nasal bone can be changed, its size can be reduced or enlarged, the angle can be changed, or the nostrils can be widened and narrowed.
The most common indications for this treatment:
Rhinoplasties, although usually performed for aesthetic reasons, solve congenital and structural problems that make breathing difficult due to malformations or lesions, and improve the passage of air through the nasal appendage.
With this operation, which is one of the most common surgical procedures in Plastic Surgery, the size of the nose can be enlarged or reduced, the shape of the tip can be changed or the nostrils can be narrowed.
The surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia, but in certain cases it can be performed under local anaesthesia and sedation. During the operation, the surgeon cuts and moulds the bones and cartilage of the nose to achieve the desired shape.
Sometimes incisions are also made at the base of the nostrils. Different tissues such as cartilage or bone from the patient’s own body are usually used as grafts to help shape or support the nasal pyramid, while synthetic materials are rarely used.
Rhinoplasty is one of the main facial aesthetic surgeries. Nose surgery provides the patient with a nose of the desired shape and size, always seeking a natural and harmonious result for the face.
Rhinoplasty surgery consists of shaping the nose by altering both the bone architecture and cartilages to give the nose the desired shape. It may also be directed towards other procedures aimed at improving respiratory function, such as septoplasty (surgery to correct the nasal septum).
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia to ensure absolute control of the respiratory process. After removing the splint, avoiding sudden activities for several weeks and always following the postoperative period and the guidelines and care set by the medical team, the patient will be able to return to normal life for comfort reasons.
As with all surgeries, it is very important for the patient interested in rhinoplasty surgery to choose a quality, safe and reliable centre. That is why at our clinic we offer individualised, personalised treatment with the best professionals in the rhinoplasty surgery industry to achieve the best results.
There are different ways of grouping rhinoplasty surgery.
On the one hand, a distinction is made between functional rhinoplasty and cosmetic rhinoplasty.
Functional rhinoplasty is performed on people who have difficulty breathing due to nasal morphology.
The aim of aesthetic rhinoplasty is purely aesthetic.
On the other hand, rhinoplasty surgery can be partial or complete.
This is when the architecture of the tip or back of the nose is changed. In this case, the patient does not want a radical change, but an improvement of a specific area. The duration of the operation and therefore the difficulty of this surgery is less.
In this surgery, the structure and shape of the nose is completely altered, such as narrowing the base of the nose, refining the tip, eliminating or reducing the ridge, or shortening the length of the nose to achieve the best result, minimising and optimising the postoperative period.
An incision is made in the centre of the nose to allow better access to the bones and cartilage.
It consists of accessing the nose through the nostrils to perform it from the inside without leaving a scar.
In the initial consultation, the patient explains his wishes and expectations to the specialist. The doctor will make a diagnosis through questions, physical examination and CT scan of the nose and sinuses. The doctor also performs a photographic analysis and recommends the most appropriate surgical plan for the patient.
The patient will be able to return to daily activities in about two days after the operation and in most cases return to work in about a week.
During the first 48 hours, the patient should wear a splint and ear plugs to keep the nasal septum stable. The plugs will be removed within 2 days and the cast will be replaced with a plaster cast within a week.
The results will largely depend on the patient’s determination, i.e. he/she should follow the postoperative care instructions for completely satisfactory results.
Some of the postoperative care after rhinoplasty include the following:
The patient can be discharged from hospital three to six hours after surgery. During the first few days, the patient should rest in a semi-sitting position and drink plenty of fluids.
After the plug is removed, between three hours and five days, it is recommended to periodically apply saline solution to ensure better hygiene, but it is also recommended to perform Nose Surgery without a Plug.
Pain is relieved with analgesics. The postoperative period is usually not painful, only for the first few days there may be discomfort from having a blocked nose.
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is a new approach to traditional rhinoplasty. It is performed using ultrasound, which improves surgical results because it is a minimally invasive technique.
This innovation provides a better result, but above all it offers a better post-surgical recovery. Because it is less invasive, there is less scarring, bruising is almost non-existent, inflammation is much less, healing takes less time and there is less discomfort during recovery.
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty, which we offer in our clinic, has numerous advantages:
In our clinic we have the best rhinoplasty specialists in Europe. Our medical team will offer you the best results, our consultant group will advise you in the best possible way and will be at your service whenever you need them.
Rhinoplasty is one of the most complex cosmetic surgeries to perform, so the professional must be exceptional. The surgery takes between 2 and 3 hours.
Incisions are made first. Rhinoplasty can be closed (when done through incisions inside the nose, the scar is not visible to the eye) or open (removal of skin or tissue from the nose).
Then surgical instruments are used to change the structure of the nose and finally cartilage and/or bone is partially removed to reshape the nose as a whole.
On the day of surgery, the patient should fast for eight hours and wear comfortable clothes, no jewellery or make-up. They also cannot take medications such as aspirin, painkillers, Vitamin E.
